Bowel Cancer

The colo-rectal surgeons work as part of a multi-disciplinary team comprising oncologists, radiologists, histo-pathologists and colo-rectal and stoma nursing specialists.

The RUH carries out approximately 180 operations for bowel cancer a year. Surgeons are increasingly using laproscopic techniques in these operations.

In addition the team is planning to appoint a new surgeon this year, skilled in trans-anal endoscopic surgery for the removal of early rectal cancers.
