Palliative Care

RUH Specialist Team

We are a support and advisory service working with the staff in the RUH. We also work in partnership with Dorothy House Hospice Care who provides support in the community.

The team consists of:

  • Lead nurse palliative and end of life care
  • Palliative Care Nurse Specialists: Rachel Davies and Gill Marsh (job share), Kathy Morris and Clare Mitchell (job share), Annie Murray and Petrena Heffernan (job share), Sharon Devine-King and Clare Newman
  • Dorothy House Hospice Care medical team sessions at the RUH supported by - Consultant in Palliative Medicine: Dr Ed Presswood
  • Palliative Occupational Therapist: Beth Lovering
  • Palliative Support Worker: Leah Moyle
Some of the services we aim to offer within the RUH are:
  • Advice and help with controlling physical symptoms when they are difficult to manage, such as pain, nausea, breathlessness, fatigue
  • Giving people time to talk about the effects of the illness on people and their family
  • Helping people to cope with the emotional, psychological and spiritual aspects of living with a life threatening illness
  • Advice and support to help people to plan for the future - e.g. adjusting to life changes, how and where care can be provided
