Children's surgery

At the Royal United Hospital Bath NHS Foundation Trust we anaesthetise over 2000 children and young people each year. This includes babies from as young as 2 months old to young people until they reach adulthood on their 18th birthday.

We perform anaesthesia for the following surgical procedures: Dental, ENT, Maxillofacial, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology and Urology. We also perform anaesthesia for diagnostic procedures such as MRI scans.

We have produced short videos to explain what children and their parents or carers can expect on the day of surgery.

RUH Patient information leaflets regarding general anaesthesia for children, are available and are age related.

A comprehensive leaflet on tonsillectomy is also available via the same link above.

The following national website provides additional information leaflets:

Should you require further information please contact the Lead Paediatric Anaesthetist via the RUH Department of Anaesthesia (01225 825056).
