About the Ward
Cheselden Ward is a slow stream ward for the care of older patients, with a focus on discharge planning and rehabilitation. It is predominantly run by Medical Nurse Practitioners rather than junior doctors. MNPs are senior nurses who have undergone additional training in the care and management of older people.
Ward Location
Cheselden Ward is located in RUH Zone D (Princess Anne Wing) on the first floor. It is also called ward D8.
Ward Layout
Cheselden Ward has 22 beds arranged in 3 bays of 6 beds and 4 side rooms.
Entrance to the ward is gained by swipe card access for reasons of patient safety. There is a doorbell for relatives and visitors to access the ward; a member of the ward team will let you in. The main reception desk and nurses' station is in the middle of the ward.

The Multi-disciplinary Team
The medical team includes a team of doctors and specialist nurses (Medical Nurse Practitioners).
The ward manager , Amie Briggs, is in charge of the overall running of the ward and nursing care. They have a dedicated team of junior sisters, nurses, healthcare assistants, domestic staff and ward clerks. A dedicated discharge co-ordinator assists the discharge process.
A team of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, mental health liaison officers and social workers also have input into patient care.
