Dietetics
Community Adult Services
Our Community Dietitians support patients in a range of settings and with a wide range of dietary concerns.
Inpatient Care
We support patients on Sulis Ward at St Martin's Hospital and John Stacey Ward at Paulton Hospital to meet their nutritional needs during their hospital stay.
Outpatient Clinics
Adults (aged 18+) registered with a GP in Bath and North East Somerset (BANES) can access our community service through:
- Clinic appointments (most clinics run from St Martin's Hospital however some clinics also run from other locations which include Keynsham Health Centre, Paulton Hospital and the Royal United Hospital)
- Telephone or video consultation
The community dietitians can support with advice to:
- Gain weight and/or increase overall nutritional intake
- Manage diabetes
- Manage a gastrointestinal condition (eg. coeliac disease, irritable bowel syndrome)
- Manage a restricted diet (which may relate to intolerances or managing multiple health conditions)
- Lose weight (please note this service does not see patients under the specialist weight management service)
We also work in specialist areas including neurology, cardiology, diabetes and rheumatology for patients under RNHRD. You will need a referral for these services.
You may be signposted to online information or invited to a group education session, rather than being offered a one to one appointment with a dietitian.
Home visits
Our community dietitians visit patients in their own home for housebound patients only, if this is deemed necessary after an initial telephone call. A home visit to a care home is only provided in exceptional circumstances.
