Dietetics
Community Adult Services (BANES)
Guidance for GPs, and other Health and Social Care professionals referring to this service.
Adults (aged 18+) registered with a GP in Bath and North East Somerset (BANES) can access our community service through clinic appointments and telephone / video consultations.
Most clinics run from St Martin's Hospital, but also at:
- Keynsham Health Centre
- Paulton Hospital
- Royal United Hospital
Providing support and advice for patients to:
- Gain weight and/or increase overall nutritional intake
- Manage diabetes
- Manage a gastrointestinal condition (eg. coeliac disease, irritable bowel syndrome)
- Manage a restricted diet (which may relate to intolerances or managing multiple health conditions)
- Lose weight (please note this service does not see patients under the specialist weight management service)
Referral criteria
Referrals can be accepted from GPs and community staff in BANES.
Referral form for community dietetics – adults
Referrals can also be accepted from the following (criteria is within the referral form):
- John Stacey and Sulis Ward staff using the inpatient referral form
- Care homes in BANES using the care home referral form
This service does not accept referrals directly from any of the following:
- RUH services (the exceptions are Neurology (only for diagnosis of MND), Diabetes, Cardiac Rehab or Cardiac Failure teams, RNHRD).
- Other secondary care or tertiary care services
- Avon & Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership
- Dorothy House
This service does not cover paediatrics, enteral feeding or specialist weight management.
