The Dyson Cancer Centre
The Design
We've designed our new Centre with some important principles in mind:
How was the design developed
In order to achieve a good quality design that is fit for purpose we worked closely with staff, patients and others with an interest in these services, looking in detail at different areas within the Centre.
Together we wanted to design a building that promotes a feeling of calm as soon as you enter, and reduces feelings of stress or anxiety for patients, families, carers and visitors. The new building will be located close to support services such as the new RNHRD and Brownsword Therapies Centre building and Breast Unit and next to improved patient and visitor car parking facilities.
The Design and Build Team
The use of natural light, reduction of noise, external spaces, greenery and artwork are all known to have a positive effect on healing and the patient experience. These will be incorporated into all areas of design within the new unit, including inpatient and outpatient, internal and external spaces.
The design team include:
- Kier as our construction partners
- Architects - IBI, who are based in the UK and have a strong background in Healthcare building design and construction
- WSP our engineering consultants
- WT Partnership our cost advisors
