Children under 16

All children under the age of 16 should ideally be sent to the Children's Unit. The admitting team will check with the Children's Ward for bed availability prior to confirming this with the referring GP. If no bed is available then the child is to attend the Emergency Department. Adolescents between 16 and 18 in full time education are to follow this same pathway; if they are not then they attend as an adult. This information will need to be provided to the admitting team.
