Overview & Contact Details
Overview
The respiratory department manages patients with a wide variety of respiratory problems, including lung cancer, asthma, COPD, interstitial lung disease, bronchiectasis, cystic fibrosis, tuberculosis, pleural disease, pulmonary vascular disease, sleep apnoea and related conditions. These patients usually suffer from breathlessness, cough, haemotysis, chest pain, and, in the case of sleep apnoea, excessive daytime sleepiness.
The department offers both a large outpatient service with supporting specialist nurses for lung cancer, cystic fibrosis, TB and COPD, and a comprehensive inpatient service that can deal with all acute respiratory problems.

Consultant Connect For GP's please call via the Consultant Connect service. Email: ruh-tr.respiratory@nhs.net
On 2nd January 2019, the Respiratory Service at the Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust went live with Consultant Connect. The excellent service already provided by Respiratory via their GP Hotline number will continue but will now become Consultant Connect and all requests for advice or guidance to the Respiratory team should be via Consultant Connect rather than directly to the clinicians' secretaries. If you contact a secretary or member of the team directly for advice and guidance you will be advised to call back via Consultant Connect before any information can be provided. Respiratory are happy to continue to provide advice and guidance via email but again initial contact will need to be made via Consultant Connect in the first instance so the relevant details can be obtained and before your e-mail request for advice and guidance will be accepted and actioned. The Consultant Connect line will be available between 9:00am – 5:00pm, Monday to Friday. This service is operated by the secretaries who will connect you to the most appropriate Consultant or Registrar immediately, if one is available, or to return the call to the GP within 24 hours. |
