Dyson Centre for Neonatal Care opens doors to its first babies
The new Dyson Centre for Neonatal Care has now opened doors at the weekend to its first babies.
The Royal United Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) has been transferred from its existing small, cramped facilities into its pioneering new home.
The project, funded as a 50/50 partnership by NHS budgets and fundraising by The Forever Friends Appeal, has resulted in a dramatically different and improved environment in which the RUH can care for the 500 premature and sick babies that it looks after each year. The Dyson Centre's environmentally sustainable design is the first of its type in Europe and possibly further afield. The result has been a ground breaking new building providing state-of-the-art clinical space for premature and sick babies ranging from 'Intensive Care' to 'Special Care' rooms.
The building is sustainable in both its construction and operation which, when combined with clinical expertise and optimum space, contributes to a reduction in stress levels experienced by parents and will provide a highly beneficial healing environment for the babies.
