Passporting Mandatory Training

Save time, don't repeat mandatory training.

On this page:

For staff joining the RUH

If you are joining the RUH from another NHS organisation you may be able to transfer some of your mandatory training and avoid having to repeat it.

Mandatory training can be transferred to the RUH if it meets the following criteria:

  • The training was provided by one of the 262 NHS organisations in England signed up to the StatMand Staff Movement Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This includes all NHS provider trusts, ICBs, CICs, CSUs and most national bodies but does not include GP practices, local authorities or other companies delivering NHS services.
See the NHS organisations that have signed StatM and Staff MoU
  • The training is in this list of subjects that can potentially be transferred
  • Evidence is provided either automatically via ESR using the Inter Authority Transfer process, or in the form of training certificates or learning history reports. Evidence of prior training must include your name, the training provider and the date that training was completed
  • The training is still in date according to the time periods set out in the national guidance

Before you leave your current employer, we strongly recommend that you get evidence of your completed training, for example a report from the learning management system or individual certificates. It can be more difficult to obtain this information after you have left.

During your induction period, check your LearnTogether record for the mandatory training required for your role. LearnTogether is the RUH online platform for checking compliance, completing eLearning and booking courses, which you will be introduced to during induction. Any training records that have been transferred electronically from a previous NHS employer should update your LearnTogether record in your first week. Please check this before sending any other evidence of prior training to us to record manually.

After your first week at the RUH, for any in-date training from the list below that has not transferred electronically, please send evidence of completion to ruh-tr.learntogether@nhs.net and your training record will be updated with any valid training. Please note that we are not able to process training records before your start date.

To ensure training is passported as quickly as possible please only send your evidence for transferable subjects and only send it once. (NB certificates may be checked for authentication)

For support with passporting training please contact the Education Centre on 01225 825502 (internally ext 5502) or email ruh-tr.learntogether@nhs.net

For staff leaving the RUH

If you are moving to another organisation from the RUH it is important to download evidence of your training before you leave, as you may need this to transfer it to another organisation. The best way to do this is to download your ‘Record of Learning’ from LearnTogether (you will not be able to access your training records on LearnTogether after you have left).

For instructions on how to view and download your Record of Learning please refer to the 'How to view your Record of Learning' section in the LearnTogether User Guide.

The ‘LearnTogether Individual Training Compliance Record’ is also available from the Reports tab in LearnTogether:

You will also have certificates for eLearning and for some classroom courses you have completed, available in the ‘my certificates’ area of LearnTogether. These can be downloaded as PDF documents if you wish, refer to the Certificates section of the LearnTogether User Guide for more information.

Frequently asked questions about RUH training records. Please check this information before contacting us as we have very limited resource to respond to your individual queries.

  • Is mandatory training provided by the RUH aligned to the Core Skills Training Framework (CSTF)? Yes for all subjects listed above
  • Is the training face to face or eLearning? The course name on certificates states whether the course is face-to-face, eLearning or a mix (blended)
  • Can you confirm the completion dates for this person’s training? We are not able to confirm completion dates or job roles for individuals, please accept training evidence as valid if it matches one of the examples above
  • Resuscitation training - specific queries about course content:

    • Does it include face-to-face training? Resus training includes theory (usually eLearning) and a practical face-to-face session
    • How long is the training? This depends on which version of the course, refer to certificate or course report for title: ABLS or PBLS Induction is 2 hours face-to-face, ABLS or PBLS training and test is 1 hour face-to-face, ABLS or PBLS practical test is 10-15 mins face-to-face assessment only. Plus all have a requirement to complete theory eLearning prior to attending, which takes an estimated 45 mins but depends on the person.
    • Does it include airway management? Includes basic air way opening and use of bag valve mask only - no airway adjuncts
    • Does BLS cover adults & children? Certificates and reports state whether adult or paediatric (ABLS does not include PBLS)
    • Does it include emergency drugs & equipment? Familiarisation only of where to find them not when to give or the dose etc
    • Does it include Automated External De-fibrillation (AED) training? Yes

Thank you for your understanding in following this process.
