About us

The Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases (RNHRD) has a long history of excellence in the management of Axial Spondyloarthritis (Ankyolosing Spondylitis). The RNHRD is internationally renowned for being at forefront of care and research into this condition.

The 2 week residential programme has been running for more that 45 years. The model is unique in it's holistic, multidisciplinary approach to improving health and wellbeing and providing supported self-management strategies.

What we offer

The 2 week programme aims to provide participants with the tools they need to manage all aspects of their condition. We also aim to improve spinal range of movement, confidence in exercise and begin to build fitness. As well as daily exercise in the gym and hydro pool, we provide interactive education sessions addressing topics such as managing sleep, pain, fatigue and flare-ups.

The majority of the core content is delivered by Physiotherapists who are specialised in the mangement of axSpA (AS) and we have input from the wider specialist Rheumatology Team including Occupational Therapists, Podiatrists, Specialist Nurses and a Psychologist.

Each participant will have the oppurtunity to attend two medical review sessions with the Dr. Sengupta and his team with input from the AS Specialist Physiotherapists.
