Research & Development

Research and Development forms an integral part of the work of the Department of Medical Physics and Bioengineering. Activities range from developments to improve current clinical procedures, to original studies, commonly carried out in co-operation with clinical colleagues, and with colleagues in a number of universities.

Active research links exist with departments of Bath, Bristol, University of the West of England, Southampton,  and Exeter Universities.

Examples of R&D activities include studies into linear accelerator wedge optimisation, gel dosimetry, autonomic neuropathy diagnosis, 3D ultrasound imaging, electromagnetic interference with pacemakers, studies of the old NICU and new Dyson NICU and now our novel blood pressure measurements.

Research funding has been secured from both external and Trust sources.

Results from our work are presented regularly at national and international conferences, and are published in peer-reviewed scientific and medical journals. Some specific examples are given in other sections of this website.
