Young people
There is no lower age limit to attend the Riverside clinic you can attend at any age and you do not need an adult with you to attend.
Contraception is free, confidential, and accessible to young people under 16 in the UK, provided they understand the advice, with doctors generally not informing parents. Effective options include Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC) like implants or IUDs, as well as pills, condoms, and emergency contraception.
What to expect
If you are attending for contraception it is useful for you to know the below information when you attend, however this is not essential:
- Your medical history
- Your immediate family medical history ie heart issues, cancer, epilepsy, Blood clots, stroke.
- Names of any medications you are currently taking or recently taken.
- The date of the first day of your most recent period.
- Your period cycle lengths (this is generally around 26-31 days but everyone's is different, please see the period tracker to help with tracking your period.
We have a stand-alone computer system and all our notes are either kept in the clinic or stored securely.
If you are under 18 years of age, we do write to your GP and inform them of your visit unless there is a genuine reason for this not to happen.
If the GP refers you to us this is usually done via a letter. In this instance we will reply to the GP once you have attended. We will ask you if you wish to have a copy of the letter sent to your address.
If you have any concerns or questions please contact our health advisers on or speak with member of staff when you attend.
