RUH welcomes back its doctors of the future
More than 100 medical students will return to the Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust today (Monday 7 September) to continue their studies.
The medical students, from the University of Bristol, will be based in wards and departments all across the hospital.
During the COVID-19 pandemic the majority of the students' learning has taken place online, so getting them back on to the RUH site means they can concentrate on the more practical elements of their training, working directly with patients.
The students will be wearing their distinctive dark green polo shirt and grey trouser scrubs and will be living in 'bubbles' in the hospital's on-site accommodation.
Richard Graham, RUH Deputy Medical Director, said: "We're delighted to get our medical students back on site and involved in the day-to-day running of the hospital.
"These students are the doctors of the future, so it's essential they get that important practical experience and work closely with our patients.
"They will be supervised by a doctor at all times and will be following all of our infection prevention and control procedures.
"In addition to the practical, on-site learning, we'll also be supporting them with a combination of virtual and face-to-face learning.
"I look forward to seeing them around the RUH and know our staff will give them a warm welcome and make sure they have all the help and support they need."
