Physiotherapy & Orthotics Service

F1

Medical Physiotherapy Team

The physiotherapy team for medicine provide varying level of cover for the following wards; A&E, MAU, MSSU, Respiratory, Cardiac and Coronary Care, Haygarth, Marlbourgh, Hamilton, Helena, Victoria and William Budd.

We also have a responsibility for providing support to medical admissions that are placed on other wards at times of bed pressures.

Our role is diverse given the variety of symptoms, complaints and diagnoses given to patients admitted under the medical doctor’s teams.

We provide respiratory assessment and treatment for those with difficulty with their breathing (e.g. for those with chest infections, pneumonia, chronic respiratory diseases such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and bronchiectasis).

We provide assessment and care for those with new or chronic neuromuscular disorders (such as Strokes, Parkinson’s disease or multiple sclerosis).

We often are asked to assess and provide care for people that have fallen or those that present with reduced levels of mobility.

We work closely with other specialist physiotherapists such as those working with the Discharge Assessment Team (DAT), the Cystic Fibrosis service and orthopaedic and neurological team.
