Paediatric Chronic Fatigue Syndrome / ME

B11

How can I be referred?

We are happy to see any child under the age of 19 with CFS/ME who needs help getting better. They may have mild CFS/ME and need a little help, or have very severe CFS/ME and not be able to get out of bed. We are able to accept referrals for young people aged 18 or 19 if they are still in education.

We can accept referrals from both our local region and further afield, however all referrals to us must be made by a hospital consultant, GP or other health professional. We accept initial enquiries over the phone, but referrers are required to make a formal referral via the NHS e-Referral Service - for further information please see Information for GPs and Referrers section.

Children and young people need to have had CFS/ME for at least three months before a diagnosis can be made. Before a diagnosis is made, children and young people need to have had screening blood tests to rule out other causes of fatigue (please see the referral proforma above for further details).
