We are a support and advisory service working with the staff in the RUH. We also work in partnership with Dorothy House Hospice Care who provides support in the community.

The team consists of:

  • Lead Nurse Palliative and End of Life Care: Rebecca Spicer-Thomas
  • Palliative Care Nurse Specialists: Rachel Davis, Annie Murray and Petrena Heffernan (job share), Kathy Morris and Clare Mitchell (job share), Sharon Devine-King and Gill Marsh
  • Consultant in Palliative Medicine and Associate Specialist, who work from Dorothy House and support RUH with 5 sessions per week: Dr Rebecca Bhatia and Dr Ed Presswood
  • Palliative Occupational Therapist: David White
  • Palliative Support Worker: Leah Moyle
Some of the services we aim to offer within the RUH are:
  • Advice and help with controlling physical symptoms when they are difficult to manage, such as pain, nausea, breathlessness, fatigue
  • Giving people time to talk about the effects of the illness on people and their family
  • Helping people to cope with the emotional, psychological and spiritual aspects of living with a life threatening illness
  • Advice and support to help people to plan for the future - e.g. adjusting to life changes, how and where care can be provided
