Special instructions
This test requires paired (i.e. taken on the same day) FASTING SERUM (yellow top tube) and URINE samples.
Please collect the SECOND URINE of the day into a yellow Vacuette urine tube. The patient may drink water.

Reference Range
CEI ≥22 : Probable hyperparathyroidism, familial hypercalcaemic hypocalciuria excluded.
CEI <22 : Results suggest benign familial hypercalcaemic hypocalciuria.
Please note this only applies if the patient is hypercalcaemic.

Clinical Application
This test may be ordered as an alternative to 24h urine calcium analysis to distinguish between hypercalcaemia caused by primary hyperparathyroidism and benign familial hypercalcaemic hypocalciuria.
