Clinical Application
IGFBP-3 is one of six members of the IGFBP family. IGFBP-3 is produced mainly by the liver, with a smaller amount produced by the ovaries, placenta and fibroblasts. IGFBP-3 is responsible for transporting around 95% of circulating IGF-I and IGF-II.

IGFBP-3 is responsible for transporting, and regulating the half-life of, IGFs. Measurement of IGF binding proteins may be useful in differentiating the cause of growth hormone deficiency and short stature in children.
