Special instructions
1 x Tri-sodium citrate sample.

Stable for one day at 15 to 25oC without any loss in DNA yield, or up to 1 week with only moderate loss in yield.

Storage at 2 to 8oC for up to 7 days is recommended to reduce loss in yield.
Test forms part of the thrombophilia screen.

Time limit for add on= fresh sample required. Interfering substances = anticoagulation therapy, haemolysed and lipaemic samples.

Please note that this test is not accredited to ISO:15189 due to recent changes in equipment. This test has been verified internally and accreditation has been applied for.

Clinical Application
Full thrombophilia screen includes: Activated protein C resistance test (and/or Factor V Leiden), factor II (prothrombin) G20210A gene mutation, lupus anticoagulant screen, anticardiolipin quantitation, antithrombin activity, protein C activity, free protein S antigen, clotting screen and FBC.

Thrombophilia screen requires 4-5 citrate samples, 1 x EDTA, 1 x clotted sample(SST).

Thrombophilia screening requests must be discussed with and authorised by haematology clinical staff.
