Clinical Application
Measurement forms a critical part of the International Surviving Sepsis Campaign Bundles (http://www.survivingsepsis.org/Bundles/Pages/default.aspx), however, analysis using a blood gas analyser at point of care is preferred where available.

Measurement of lactate has limited use in the differential diagnosis and management of acidosis: the cause is usually discernible from other measurements. Measurement as part of ischaemic lactate test is used in diagnosis of glycogen storage disorder Muscle Phosphorylase deficiency (McArdle's disease).
