Clinical Application
GTT is recommended in patients with impaired fasting glycaemia, but need not be undertaken if a clearly raised fasting glucose (>7.0 mmol/l) has already been shown: in this case diabetes may be diagnosed on the basis of clinical signs, or by a repeat fasting glucose. Undertaking a GTT if fasting glucose is known to be raised may be dangerous.
