Wondering what it's like to be an RUH cleaner?
"I have worked as a domestic cleaner in the RUH for nine years. I have been part of a team of three people who work on William Budd ward and we are each responsible for our own area of the ward.
My area is an isolation unit, an area which is designed to protect vulnerable patients from infections.
Working on this ward, I get to know some patients who stay at the hospital for a while; I enjoy chatting and laughing with the patients whilst I clean their rooms. I hope that in my own small way I am helping to lift their spirits for what must be a hard time for them.
During other parts of my day, our team work together, like at dinner time or when we have to deep clean an area. Like all jobs, some days are challenging, but as a team we all work together to get the job done (which usually involves a smile and a laugh along the way). We have good support and training from our supervisor which also helps.
The team I work with take pride in their work and once in a while we are told "you are doing a good job, thank you" from a patient or a member of staff… it makes my job worthwhile!"
