About the Ward

Our Ambulatory Care area situated within the Medical Assessment Unit is open Monday to Friday from 10 am until 6pm. There is space for five patients to receive treatment or wait for investigations on comfortable chairs. It is staffed by one registered nurse and one health care assistant. Within this area there are also two clinic rooms, a treatment room and toilet facilities.

To be admitted to the Ambulatory Care area we anticipate that all your assessment and treatment will be completed by 6pm. In the unlikely event that things will take longer, or that we recommend that you should be admitted to hospital, we will transfer you to another part of the Medical Assessment Unit or to another ward.

You will need to arrange your own transport home again, after leaving Ambulatory Care, as we do not supply this. We will provide simple meals and drinks during the day.

It is our aim to assess you and carry out any investigations or treatment as soon as possible. However there may be times when the medical team are attending to emergencies elsewhere, resulting in delays. We will keep any delays to a minimum, and we hope you will understand.

Any medication you may need on discharge will be dispensed from our pharmacy. We will write a letter to your GP explaining what tests or treatment you have had, a copy of this letter will automatically be sent to you.
