Special instructions
A special sample collection procedure is required, laboratory MUST be contacted before requesting. An 8 hour fast prior to the sample being taken is required. For a full gut hormone profile 3 EDTA tubes must be received on ice.

Clinical Application
For gastrin analysis patients MUST STOP PPI (e.g. omeprazole) for 2 weeks prior to having samples taken. Ideally H2 antagonist treatment (e.g. ranitidine) should be also stopped for 72 hours prior to sample collection.
