Heritage, Art & Design

"The history, heritage and significance of the Min will not be forgotten - the spirit of the Min will live on in the RNHRD and Brownsword Centre.

"The new hydrotherapy pool window in particular is a fitting reminder of the Min's legacy."

James Scott, Chief Executive
Careful consideration has gone into the interior design of the RNHRD and Brownsword Therapies Centre, including the use of art and heritage, influenced by feedback from patients, staff and other partners.

It's acknowledged that art can ease anxiety, stress and depression and can even help to shorten a patient's length of stay in hospital.

Art and design within the Centre creates an environment in which all can feel welcome, comfortable and at ease. The interior design improves the experience and provide health benefits to patients and staff and contribute to the high quality care provided.

Our Art and Design Manager has been worked with IBI architects to create a bespoke interior design for the new Centre, which also incorporates some heritage items from the Mineral Water Hospital site and Bath Medical Museum.

Design features include:

  • Feature wallpapers based on the Min's collection of historic oil paintings
  • Specially commissioned large picture windows for the hydrotherapy pool that will enamelled, etched and sandblasted with key architectural and natural features
  • A 5-metre long geographical timeline on an outside wall of the Centre, representing the 2000-year journey of the thermal waters from rain falling on the Mendip Hills to emerging from the springs under Bath
