Young People

What to expect

Before having any tests done a member of staff will ask you some personal questions and it is your choice whether to be seen alone or with someone present.

The sort of questions you will be asked include:

  • What made you decide to visit the clinic today?
  • When did you last have sex?
  • Was that a male or female partner?
  • What type of sex was it? Vaginal sex/oral sex/anal sex?
  • Are you on any medication?

Tests and examinations

If you do not have any lumps, bumps, discharge or any other concerns, girls can do their own vaginal swab for Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea and boys just need to pee in a pot. An examination is not usually required. Blood tests will also be offered and are part of a routine screen.

If you do have any concerns or symptoms that require examination do not worry or be embarrassed. We will explain everything and you can again choose whether you are seen alone or if you wish to have someone with you.
