About the Ward

We aim to offer a team approach to care as far as possible. A small team of Midwives are based on Mary Ward as a core team to provide continuity along with Midwives who rotate between Mary Ward and CDS on a 4-monthly basis. This ensures that all midwifery skills are fully maintained and utilised. We have a team of Maternity Care Assistants (MCAs) that help support mothers and their families; they are a valuable part of the maternity team on Mary Ward and they work alongside the midwives.

Mary Ward also has a number of volunteers some of whom have been specifically trained to offer breast feeding peer support.

Mothers may have their partners stay with them to support them during this special time in their lives. Partners are also encouraged to stay when women undergo induction of labour if facilities are available. Unfortunately at present there are no facilities on the ward for partners to shower. Mary Ward is a female ward and the privacy and dignity of the women that we care for is paramount. For this reason, on rare occasions, we may not always be able to accommodate a male partner but the staff will always endeavour to facilitate a partner to stay if appropriate.

Amenity beds are also available if requested at a cost of £100 per night. You may need to vacate the room if the room is required by another mother for a clinical reason.
