Our Radiotherapy Department

Our Radiotherapy Department is a busy, modern training department. It is open Monday to Friday for treatment delivery. Due to the progression of the Dyson Cancer Centre building work all outpatient treatment planning has been relocated to Genesis Care, Bristol BS32 4SY.

About the service

The Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust provides acute treatment and care for a catchment population of around 500,000 people in Bath, and the surrounding towns and villages in North East Somerset and Western Wiltshire.

The Royal United Hospital NHS Trust in Bath is currently undergoing an extensive modernisation program with plans that include the radiotherapy department.

The Radiotherapy department has external quality accreditation with BSI and the current establishment is for 26.64 WTE. 2 Consultant Therapeutic Radiographers, Therapeutic Radiographers, 4 support staff and an apprentice Therapeutic Radiographer

Our facilities

The radiotherapy facilities include:

  • 2 Dual Modality Varian linear accelerators – these are fitted with the latest technology including on board imaging (OBI), Rapid Arc and cone beam CT function
  • Xstrahl superficial machine which offers a network service for skin lesions
  • Toshiba Aquilion LB CT-Simulator

This equipment enables us to deliver the most upto date treatments, such as Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT), Image Guided Radiotherapy (IGRT), Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT), Deep Inspiration Breath hold (DIBH) and Stereotactic Ablative Radiotherapy (SABR).

Cancer Support and Information Centre can provide you with further support including counselling and financial support, as well as comprehensive written information to take away with you.

Wait times

There is no waiting list for Radiotherapy at the Royal United Hospital and patients will be treated within the National Cancer waiting times targets.

We are a clinical placement site for student radiographers from the University of the West of England (UWE)
