About us

Children's Occupational Therapist's (OTs) work with children and young people who have a functional difficulty with activities of daily living. This can include all functional activities completed within the home and school environment. We look at areas including self-care, school activities and play. Our aim is to ensure your child is as independent as they can be.

As a team we recognise the importance of each child's individuality. We endeavour to make our assessments and treatments fun and engaging, to enable us to work together to meet your child's goals and individual needs.

Occupational Therapy Information

When a child or young person is referred to the Occupational Therapy Team it will be decided whether the referral meets our criteria.

We may contact the referrer or the parent via phone or questionnaire if we require more information about your child or young person. If your child has been seen by a private Occupational Therapist, please provide a copy of their report on your first appointment, to avoid repeating assessments for your child.

We may invite you to attend a face to face clinic at the Royal United Hospital (RUH), video consultation, telephone consultation or online group.

We will then develop goals to address functional difficulties.

If required, your child may be followed up with visits to school / early years setting / follow up assessments and sessions at the RUH. This may be provided by an Occupational Therapist or Therapy Support Worker.

If it felt that the child does not meet our criteria, we will send a letter outlining the reasoning and explanation if the child needs to be referred to other services.

Referral

Please provide as much information as possible regarding the child's history and functional difficulties. We consider referrals from any health professional, schools or early years setting with a written referralĀ via post or email.

The Fizzy programme works on three specific areas balance, ball skills and body awareness. Clever Hands works on developing fine motor skills required for participation in every day school activities. Both programmes are fun and easy to administer with the use of helpful leaflets.
