Clinical Application
Calcitonin is used in the diagnosis and monitoring of medullary carcinoma of the thyroid (MTC).

MTC can be part of an inherited condition Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia II (MEN type II). Measurement of calcitonin is used in the screening of patients with a family history of MTC or who have other component disorders of the MEN type II complex. Please contact laboratory for further information.
