Clinical Application
Some patients exhibit pseudohyperkalaemia, due to release of potassium from red cells, white cells or platelets on clotting: leukaemia and thrombocythaemia should be excluded. Pseudohyperkalaemia can be investigated by taking blood into Lithium-heparin tube and analysing uncentrifuged sample.
