Clinical Application
Low levels seen in hypoglycaemia due to hyperinsulinaemia and disordered fatty acid metabolism.

Elevated in ketoacidosis, but note long turnaround time for this analysis can make it unhelpful in differential diagnosis of metabolic acidosis.
