Clinical Application
Acylcarnitine profile (there are many different forms of acylated carnitine) is useful in investigation of inborn errors of metabolism affecting organic acids and fatty acids (e.g. MCAD deficiency) NOTE: Total and free carnitines (see "Carnitines") in plasma are also measured in connection with some neurological/muscle disorders)
