Having a ball for the RUH Children's Unit

The Children's Unit at Bath's Royal United Hospital has received a donation of over £2,000 from Hilton Bath City hotel in partnership with the DM Thomas Foundation for Young People.

A total of £2,155 was raised at a charity ball held at the hotel, with a fairytale theme of 'Once Upon a Time' – to which staff from the Children's Unit were invited. A cheque was presented to the unit by James Howard and Karen Watts of the Hilton Bath City.

The DM Thomas Foundation for Young People and the Hilton Bath City have elected the Children's Unit to continue to be a beneficiary of proceeds from future balls. A summer ball will be held on 16 June 2017 and is open to members of the public (see Notes to the Editor).

Children's Unit Senior Sister Melanie Gittins said: "The support means so much to us. It is great to know that we have a mutually beneficial relationship with Hilton Bath City that gives us the opportunity to fundraise each year through their annual charity ball. It is also an opportunity for our hardworking team to have a chance to dress up and dance the night away!

"We are looking to invest the funds already raised into our Paediatric Assessment Unit. We are looking to purchase another trolley bed and portable oxygen saturation monitors to help towards increasing the efficiency of the unit. "It is so good to know that we have this yearly opportunity to raise funds for the Children's Unit in a way that is fun and good for the morale of the staff on the unit."

The funds raised at the Hilton Bath City hotel's charity ball were donated through the DM Thomas Foundation for Young People a charity that works to transform the lives of young people.

Simon Sheehan Director of DM Thomas Foundation for Young People said: "At the Foundation we want to ensure that every young person facing health challenges receives the best possible care. We are very proud to support the Children's Unit to make life in hospital as good as possible for children and their families."
