Art at the Heart wins Building Better Healthcare award

Art at the Heart is celebrating after being awarded a Highly Commended accolade by the Building Better Healthcare Awards for its innovative and resourceful arts programme.

The RUH's Art at the Heart Programme was shortlisted in the' Best Use of Visual Art in a Healthcare Setting' category for its effective use of the arts throughout the RUH Trust.

Art at the Heart was praised for the project team's efforts and resourcefulness in making the most of limited funding to create a broad-ranging, innovative programme and for supporting local art groups and artists.

Hetty Dupays, Arts Programme Manager says, "We were thrilled even to be shortlisted as this is a national award with some strong entries. So we were incredibly proud to receive the Highly Commended accolade last week. The small, part-time arts team we have at the RUH work really hard to improve the healing environment of the Trust through innovative projects that engage with patients, staff and visitors so it's fantastic to receive such high praise and recognition for our work."

Howard Jones, Director of Estates and Facilities adds, "Art at the Heart is one way in which we recognise the importance of the environment we create for our patients, visitors and staff. The Art at the Heart team have achieved a great deal with very limited resources, embedding the arts into the life of the Trust. This award is a testament to their creativity and hard work and is something that the whole Trust can be very proud of."

The RUH was competing against some big budget projects with five other hospitals and Trusts shortlisted for the Award; Minehead Community Hospital, Downe Hospital at Downpatrick, Barts Hospital, Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre and the overall winners Guy's Hospital Cancer Day Unit, London.
