About us

Introduction by Steve Boxall
Chair of the Arts Strategy Group and Head of Capital Projects, RUH

"Art at the Heart is one way in which we recognise the importance of the environment we create for our patients, visitors and staff.

Everything we do is designed to improve the experience of visiting or working at the RUH. As such we do not limit our imagination and ambition to the obvious visual arts, although exhibitions in public spaces still form a vital part of our work. We are one of Baths largest public art galleries!

This resonates with our aim to provide comfort, health and wellbeing for all as part of the Trusts Corporate and Social Responsibility objectives.

Thank you for all the continuing support and good wishes we receive as feedback for the programme, and particular thanks to all our volunteer staff, without whom we would be unable to complete and maintain such an interesting and varied programme."

Art at the Heart of the RUH was established in 2000 under the umbrella RUH Charitable Funds: Charity Number 1058323.

Art at the Heart presents a high quality programme of arts within the RUH for the benefit of patients, staff and visitors.

The programme covers the visual arts, music and literature through exhibitions, performances and readings, together with educational workshops for patients and staff.

We also improve the healing environment through innovative design ideas for the interior and exterior spaces of the hospital, art acquisitions and commissions, and an ambitious temporary exhibitions programme which covers the ground floor central and the north areas of the hospital.

Art at the Heart welcomes new supporters who would like to be involved in the arts programme and to help fund its future development plans.

Supporters will receive benefits such as invitations to launch events and special talks.

They will also have the satisfaction of helping the thousands of outpatients, inpatients, staff and many visitors to the RUH to benefit from the healing and environmental improvements that the arts bring to the busy wards and corridors of the hospital.
