Project Overview

Ambulatory Care - 'an approach which results in a significant proportion of emergency adult patients being managed safely & efficiently on the same day avoiding admission to a hospital bed' AECN

Maximise use of ambulatory care for GP expected patients for rapid assessment and admission avoidance. Establish a Medical Therapies Unit for elective infusions currently undertaken in ambulatory care.

This project relates only to Acute Medicine. Surgery, ED, ED Obs. and the Frailty Unit are excluded.

Key Objectives

  1. Increased work through ambulatory care acting as enabler for bed closures and/or reduction of escalation usage elsewhere in the Trust.
  2. Relocation of elective work from Ambulatory Care to the Medical Therapies Unit and increased volumes of elective work through MTU.
