Postnatal Care Videos

Please take a look at the following advice for the postnatal period.

We aim to offer a team approach to care as far as possible. A small team of Midwives are based on Mary Ward as a core team to provide continuity along with Midwives who rotate between Mary Ward and Bath Birthing Centre.

This ensures that all midwifery skills are fully maintained and utilised. We have a team of Maternity Support Workers (MSWs) that help support mothers and their families; they are a valuable part of the maternity team on Mary Ward and they work alongside the midwives.

Mary Ward also has a number of volunteers some of whom have been specifically trained to offer infant feeding peer support.

Your birth partner is welcomed to stay 24/7 to support you. Other visitors and your own children 2.30pm-7pm (with a maximum of two adults at a time, including your birth partner).

Meals and Drinks

Meals are provided for the birth mother only and not the support person. There is a choice of menu and we also cater for special dietary needs (please inform staff of any dietary needs). Meal times are approximately as follows:

Hot drinks are available for patients throughout the day.
